Eating pig brain
Hot pot restaurant. At the middle of the table you can see the pot. Half of it is extremely spicy and the other side is just normal. All the dishes around it are raw. All you do is put the food in the pot and let it cook for about 5 minutes. It was one of the best meals I've had in China.
Pib brain. Surprisingly, it tastes just like brain. haha
Chop sitck master.
This is the head. I didn't take a picture of the whole shrimp with the head, but you get the idea.
In the above picture, you can see me eating a shrimps head. In China, shrimp come whole with the head, and most Chinese just eat the head right off to avoid the hassle of taking the head off. It had no taste difference that the actual shrimp meat. It was a bit crunchy though.
Eating a fish eye. Read below for description of taste and texture. Sorry the pictures are out of order.
Full chicken on a plate. Now that I see this picture, I don't know why I didn't try the head! Ahhh, I'm pretty mad. Next time. Anyway, you can see the chicken feet.
This was at my host family's house. Can you see the missing eye on the fish. It is in between my chop sticks in the first picture.
One of my most interesting goals while in Shanghai is to eat as many weird animal parts as I can. That means any time I encounter a weird animal part, I will eat it. So far I have eaten,
1) Fish eye- Hard to eat, I thought It would have been slimey, but it was sandy outside, and hard inside. Some of it got stuck to my teeth, and left a weird taste in my mouth the whole night even after brushing my teeth twice. I ate it while having dinner with my family. Tony thought I was crazy, and Nian Guo just laughed. The mom wasn't with us.
2) Chicken feet- Hard to eat, especially with chop sticks. When eating chicken feet, all you can really eat is the skin. I ate some of the skin just to try it. It wasn't bad, it wasn't good either.
3) Spicy Chicken feet- I don't intend in trying the same animal part twice unless I really like it. I ended up tasting spicy chicken feet, because I told my family that I had tried it in a restaurant, then they had it on the table for dinner the next night. Spicy chicken feet was better than regular chicken feet, but it was still hard to eat. These feet were bigger and less desirable to say the least. I had to try it because I was in front of the family, but they knew I didn't really like it. Tony and Nian Guo really dug into them though. All that came out their mouth were bones.
4) Snails- Gross. They were salty, sandy and just nasty. No picture, but you know what a snail looks like.
5) Frog-Really good. It doesn't taste like chicken, it tastes better than chicken. I had it at home. My Chinese dad prepared it in a spicy sauce. I'll definitely have it again.
6) Shrimp head- Tastes like shrimp meat with more crunch. Rather take the head off, than bite it off. The head is easy to take off. I manage to take it off with my chop sticks.
7) Deer penis- Haven't had it yet, but will not leave China until I do. Apparently, in Chinese tradition, it is good for reproduction if you eat animal testicles or deer penis. Don't think I don't think this is a bit weird my self, but I just want to try it. Don't really believe it will enhance my reproductive skills. haha

Deer penis?! Haha nice. From what I understand, Chinese people are notorious for using anything as an aphrodisiac, ground-up dinosaur bones are just one of the many things they use.
