Running in Shanghai should be an Olympic event.
I've been running while in Shanghai, but today was my first time running outside of campus. Traffic jam every hour of the day, people walking, biking, and on motorcycles are some of the obstacles you'll encounter. Stench of trash, smell of good and bad food, and cigarettes are some of the odors you'll smell. When crossing the road, you have to jog in place, look 360 degrees and stay close to a local just to make it to the other side alive.
Once on the side walk or street, you transform into an NFL running back. Looking for holes and gaps to escape the crowd. You have to jump, dodge, duck, and even stop to avoid any collisions. Your feet are always moving very awkwardly. I call these awkward movements, Fancy Footwork (Chromeo's Album). Once you escape, you feel free. Then stench hits you and makes you gag almost.
The most exciting of all, and the catalyst to even more danger and excitement is running through all of this while listening to my brothers sweet/ crazy/ funky music. MSTRKRFT, Justice, Chromeo are all dance and electrofunk music, which I usually listen to while running.
After near death experiences, you get back to where you started and realize that your dead tired. All that Fancy Footwork wears you out.
Thanks for letting me borrow your iPod Guanito!
