Internship

I got an internship with SIP Shanghai Engineering and Consulting, Inc. SIP provides project management, Engineering services, and consulting to firms who want to build in China for the first time.

Please visit this website If you would like to learn more, http://www.sipgroup.com/index.php

I will be working 16 hours a week. I'm going to be getting paid 22 RMB and hour, which is $3.24 cents an hour. haha. Yeah, I'm going to be cashing in big time. Actually, I wasn't expecting pay so it'll be a plus. Plus, I'm looking for experience and networking, and I'll be getting both with this internship. I start this Wednesday, the 8th of October. I have already been busy with school, but now it's going to be really interesting.

My duties include cold calling to capture leads and to advertise SIP's name to the public. The interesting part is that if I get a lead, I have the opportunity to follow the project until the end. This includes meetings and presentations with the clients. This will serve as a major incentive to capture leads. I know cold calling isn't the best assignment ever, but not all internships are like ContraVest.

That reminds me. I would like to thank Mr. Steve Ogier for the letter of recommendation he wrote. I strongly believe it helped me in acquiring this internship. Thank you.

As I will be working with the Project Management side of this firm, you should check out this link to learn more about the Project Management side. The 0-3 stage method SIP has in place seems practical and simple, but i think it's genius.

Sanya City and Holiday Inn Resort

They had a Fish Therapy Pool in the hotel. They are supposed to eat all your dead skin cells. I tried it. It felt pretty weird.

The band.

Two girls we met from Siberia. One of my friends on the trip speaks Russian so we were able to communicate with them fine. We hung out a bunch on the beach and went out a couple of nights.

Our resort!

Looks nasty doesn't it! I couldn't take it after 5 minutes. I'm too ticklish.

The beach was behind our hotel.

Some pictures of the inside.

Yeah, I guess this is a little better than The Citadel.

Some more pictures of the inside.

So what do you think?

The week flew by. Went out to the pool and beach during the day and partied at night. Had great seafood and too much American food. Overall, It was a blast. The Chinese call this Island the Hawaii of China, and I'd have to agree.

Train Ride From Hell

Trains here in China have different sections. They are soft sleepers, hard sleepers, and hard seats. We were on hard sleepers. There are 6 beds in each cabin. They're really not that hard compared to my bed at home in Shanghai.

This picture is out of order, but this is us out of the train. We finally arrived to Hainan. It was only a 15 minute van ride to our hotel.

Here's Charlie drinking away the hours.

Played a lot of cards and watched a lot of movies.

Noodles is what we had for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They were pretty good, but after 36 hours of being on a train, one can easily get tired of the same food.

This was the cafeteria on the train. I thought this picture captures perfectly our excitement of being on a train for 36 hours.
